Elliptical Exercise Equipment is an Incomplete Home Gym
The major benefit of elliptical exercise equipment is that it provides low impact cardio training and muscle toning in one convenient package. Low impact because your feet never leave the pedals. You do not experience the bone pounding you get jogging outdoors or even on a cushioned treadmill. You may be surprised to learn that pounding your bones by jogging is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s probably the most effective way to build bone density and strengthen the muscle connective tissue in your lower extremities.
You can vary the resistance and the amount of effort you must exert during an exercise session by a variety of electro-mechanical methods. Different resistance controls are one of the ways that elliptical manufacturers distinguish their products. The Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer, for example, offers eight computer-controlled resistance levels and eight workout programs, including six user-profile programs, one manual, and one calorie goal program. It’s not set it and forget it. You still have to do the work but this level of sophistication is very helpful in setting and meeting fitness goals. In addition, full body fitness by definition must include working all your major muscle groups at about the same duration and intensity.
A little knowledge about cardio training is a requirement if you hope to strengthen your heart and improve the performance of your vasculatory system. It’s beyond the scope of this article but you must learn your regular heart rate and how many beats per minute you need to increase your standing heart rate and for how long before you actually derive a cardio benefit from the exercise. Many ellitical machines have heart rate monitors as standard equipment. Learn how to use it.
You can fill out your home gym with a Weider Total Body Works 5000. The elliptical is good for cardio but you also need strength and flexibility training for total fitness. The Body Works 5000’s innovative resistance mechanism turns your body weight into natural resistance for a wide variety of exercises, more than 100, that build stregth and flexibility.
